In 1987, my siblings and I put together a party for my parent’s 40th anniversary. I wrote this song and my brothers and I recorded it, then performed it at the party.

Lyrics:
Mom and Dad
You gave the greatest gift to me
Mom and Dad
A happy home and family
You taught me to be good (OO-OO)
To do the things I should
Mom and Dad
You’re the best part of me (Unison)
Virtue is the key to all in life
And we were blessed to see it in our youth
When other kids saw hate
And had only that to imitate
We had you, we had love
Mom and Dad
You gave the greatest gift to me
Mom and Dad
A happy home and family
You taught me to be good (OO-OO)
To do the things I should
Mom and Dad
You’re the best part of me (Unison)
Forty years, forty years of faithfulness
Forty years, forty years of truth
Forty years , forty years of sacrifice
How can we, how can we repay you
We have seen the sunshine and the rain
But you taught us to survive the winds of change
Yes we will stick together (Unison)
We’re family forever
Because of you
We know love
Mom and Dad
You gave the greatest gift to me
Mom and Dad
A happy home and family
You taught me to be good (OO-OO)
To do the things I should
Mom and Dad
You’re the best
Mom and Dad
You’re the best
Mom and Dad
You are love to me
