I had the privilege of writing and playing music for St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon in the 1970s and ’80s.
Bless This Situation was written in 1979 and is on my album Love Seeds. This is a prayer for any occasion when you want things to improve.
Each situation involves you, the other (i.e. whatever or whoever is not you in the situation) and the co-relation. See the situation in its best light. See possibilities for co-operation and explore them. Be compassionate and tolerant. Expect inspiration, expect positive change to appear — positive for you, the other, and the co-relation, working well together.
To be clear, what I mean by “The Lord” is not a person or personality, but the functionality which governs manifestation on all levels. The “creation” functionality, however it works, no matter what you call it, must be present before the “manifestation” functionality is experienced. Both functionalities have been at the basis of our world since “the beginning”.
Like every moment, a prayer is a creative process. Ideas are focused on, then belief/commitment/expectation and emotion and “training”, i.e. doing what needs to be done to be qualified and in the right place at the right time where that manifestation can occur.
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, go to New York, then take a cab. Draw an outline, get your crayons and fill it in. Plant a seed in fertile ground and give it what it needs to reach its full potential.
“Well, that’s it, in a nutshell”, which is, coincidentally, the container for a seed.
